According to a press release issued by the ER authorities, the Bidhannagar Road station is a “crucial hub that caters to a large number of commuters from various walks of life. During peak hours, the station experiences a significant build-up of crowds daily”. An ER spokesperson said that there was a demand for a connection to Kalyani Simanta line for home-bound passengers as the train used to gallop by Ultadanga.

Recognising the “need for enhanced passenger safety and smoother crowd management”, the authority has opted to stop the Sealdah – Kalyani Simanta local at the Bidhannagar Road station at 7.17pm.
