Four law students were allegedly caught cheating during the All India Bar Council Examination at a centre in Narkeldanga on Sunday.
Police said they had smuggled their mobile phones into the examination hall.
All four are students of law. They would have become eligible to practice law in the Indian courts had they passed the examination conducted by the Bar Council of India Trust.
The police said they had arrested the four based on the complaint of Rahul Deo Sharma, the teacher in charge of Khanna High School, in the capacity of being the “Centre Superintendent” of Khanna High School Centre for All India Bar Council
Examination.
The examination was held between 10am and 1pm during which the four were allegedly found to have been involved in “suspicious activities”, officers of Narkeldanga police station where the complaint was lodged, said.
The four were identified as Alok Adhikari, Subrata Sarkar, Masasul Hossain and Jagannath Manna. “The invigilators caught the four using mobile phones inside the exam hall,” said an officer.
The accused had allegedly clicked pictures of the question papers and were trying to send them outside the hall to know their answers, police said.
