A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to outrage the modesty of a woman who was sleeping with her ailing child at a hospital for children in the Park Circus area on Sunday.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the man sneaked into the first-floor ward of the Institute of Child Health, Calcutta, at night and tried to touch her inappropriately before attempting to take her pictures on a mobile phone. She was sleeping beside her son, who was undergoing treatment at the institute.
Based on the complaint, police arrested Tanay Pal under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and seized his mobile phone. A resident of Subhasgram in South 24-Parganas, Pal originally hailed from Tripura, police said.
“We handed over the man, a ward boy, to police and terminated him from our hospital with immediate effect,” said Apurba Ghosh, the executive director and chairman of the trust that runs the Institute of Child Health.
“The family took a discharge and left the hospital soon after the incident. He child had recovered and would have been released tomorrow,” said an official of the hospital.
