The KMDA has e-mailed the clubs on the Rabindra Sarobar premises asking them to restrict the cars brought to the compound by swimmers training in the clubs.
The mail said the “additional” cars brought by swimmers blocked roads and hindered pedestrian movement. The KMDA has received complaints from visitors to the Sarobar about a “huge number of vehicles” remaining parked in the compound.
“It has been observed that during the afternoon and evening, a huge number of vehicles... are being parked adjacent to your club premises… vehicles are causing road blockages, hindering pedestrian and vehicular movement (and) causing more air and sound pollution in the vicinity,” reads the e-mail sent by an executive engineer of the KMDA. Metro has accessed the letter.
The e-mail pointed out that the problem gets magnified during the swimming season as the number of cars increases. “You are hereby requested to make necessary arrangements to restrict the entry of additional vehicles used by the seasonal swimmers,” the email says.
“We have received the mail.... We can hardly do anything as visitors coming to other parts of the lakes park their cars near our club,” said Arijit Kumar of Anderson Club.
