Satya Doctor Road in Kidderpore, which was closed for repairs over a week ago after residents blocked it, is unlikely to be opened before Puja, civic officials said on Tuesday.

Mayor Firhad Hakim visited the road on Tuesday to review the repairs.

The road, linking Karl Marx Sarani with the port area, was in a poor state and large containers would frequently topple while plying down the thoroughfare.

“Extensive repairs are needed. The water supply lines are being relaid. Besides, parts of the sewer network have to be cleaned and repaired,” said an official of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC).

“The road is unlikely to be opened to traffic before Puja. The rain is only making matters worse.”

CMC sources said police had told them that the road did not get much traffic during Durga Puja and the repair team could work during the period.
