Kanhaiya Kumar, the former JNU students’ union president, has confirmed his attendance at the Left Front’s rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds here on February 3.
Sources said he was likely to attack both the BJP-led Centre and the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.
The 32-year-old leader of the CPI’s student wing will be among guest speakers at the Left’s rally.
Two other invitees, actress Shabana Azmi and Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh chief Prakash Ambedkar, a grandson of B.R. Ambedkar, are yet to confirm their participation. “Two other guest speakers are likely to give the programme a miss. We are yet to get a written message from Buddha (Bhattacharjee) babu,” said a CPM insider.
“As of now, we are banking big on Kanhaiya’s ability to rouse an audience,” added the insider.
Following Mamata’s mega event at the same venue on January 19, the Left is under pressure to deliver a decent show at the Brigade. CPM sources said Kanhaiya’s presence would help generate greater interest in the rally.
