The authorities of a private hospital off EM Bypass, where Jyoti Priya Mallick has been undergoing treatment for the past three nights since his arrest on Friday, informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday evening that the minister was stable and fit for release.

Senior officers of the central investigating agency said they would get Mallick in their possession as early as possible and start questioning him after a team of doctors from the Command Hospital in Alipore checked his health condition.

Mallick, a diabetic with renal impairment, hypertension and other diseases, was shifted out of the hospital’s critical care unit to the male ward on Monday after specialist doctors, including a neurologist, cardiologist, nephrologist, endocrinologist and a spine surgeon, concluded that the forest minister’s condition was stable.

In the afternoon, a team of ED officers visited Mallick on their way to Bankshall court to present a report on the minister’s exact health condition following his arrest. “Hours later, the hospital authorities informed the investigating officer of the case that Mallick was fit for release. The minister needs to be regular with his intake of insulin and medicines, the authorities told the investigating team from the ED,” said a source.

Earlier in the day, Mallick’s daughter Priyadarshini, also the secretary of the West Bengal Council for High Secondary Examination, visited him at the hospital and had a brief interaction.

“My father has given in writing to the ED that he is ready to face interrogation. His condition is stable and hopefully, he’ll recover fast,” Priyadarshini told ABP Ananda.

“I went to the ED’s office yesterday to hand over a medical report. It was accepted a day after.”

On Monday, the Bankshall court rejected an appeal from a team of representatives from the Command Hospital in Alipore that the healthcare facility be exempted from checking the minister since the hospital was overburdened with patients.

The court had rejected the same appeal from the facility under the ministry of defence two days ago.
