An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday ordered a nine-day extension of judicial custody for Trinamul leader Samarendra Gayali and his aide Piyush Bhakta who were arrested by the CBI for suspected destroying of evidence in the case of the alleged gang-rape and death of a minor girl in Nadia’s Hanskhali.
The alleged gang-rape occurred on April 4 and the girl died the next morning.
Samarendra, a member of the Trinamul-ruled Gajna gram panchayat, is the father of Sohail (alias Brajo) Gayali, the prime accused. Sohail is already under arrest with five of his friends.
Defence lawyer Apurba Biswas said the CBI implicated his clients on false charges.
Samarendra was charged with destroying evidence using his political clout.
Palashipara murder
Police have arrested Krishna Mondal, 42, for allegedly killing a couple and their married daughter in Nadia’s Palashipara on Wednesday morning. Police said, Daman Rajwar, 55, his wife Sumitra, 51 and daughter Mala, 26, were found lying in a pool of blood by neighbours on Monday night.
Beginning a murder case, the police came to know that Krishna had threatened the family over stacking stones in front of the Rajwar home. A sniffer dog that was engaged by the CID team had entered Krishna’s house on Tuesday. The victim’s son-in-law Bidhan also over phone told the police about his suspected involvement.
“Krishna’s name surfaced during investigation. We detained him on Tuesday night and interrogated him. But his replies to our queries became inconsistent and eventually he broke down and confessed to his involvement. We arrested him on Wednesday morning with proof,” the cop said.
