Two youths from Jharkhand were arrested with weapons and bullets from Hamidpur islet on Wednesday night.
Police sources said an improvised revolver, two rounds of live bullets and iron rods were seized from Gaffar Sheikh and Afzal Sheikh. “They hail from Sahebganj district of Jharkhand. Also, a two-wheeler bearing registration number of Jharkhand, has been seized from them,” said Mrinal Chatterjee, the officer-in-charge of Mothabari police station in Malda.
In another incident, the Baishnabnagar police recovered 79 crude bombs from a ditch on Wednesday. Later, all bombs were defused by the bomb squad.
Also, the BSF deployed on the Indo-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur apprehended two suspected smugglers on Wednesday. They also seized a number of contraband items worth around Rs 3.57 lakh.
