The 2018 Jaguar F-PACE allows Bluetooth-enabled usage of hands-free mobile once the phone is paired with the vehicle.
The vehicle system then connects automatically with the phone whenever it is inside the vehicle and the ignition switch is on, according to the service manual of the Jaguar F-PACE.
Once pairing is done, the vehicle prompts if the phone contacts and the recent call list should be downloaded on the vehicle. If that is approved, the entire call list is accessible from the vehicle system.
“Once a phone is paired, a few features of the vehicle can be operated through a Jaguar app downloaded on the phone. Among the features are turning the ignition of the car on or off,” said an industry source.
Police on Wednesday recovered the data sourced from the event data recorder (EDR) of the Jaguar that threw up the telematics data with the log of all the phone numbers that were paired with the vehicle. The last log showed a number that belonged to Raghib Parwez, the elder scion of the Arsalan family.
The 2018 Jaguar F-PACE, a completely built-up unit (CBU), has in-built telematics. The pre-fitted telematics system in the Jaguar F-PACE allows customers to monitor vehicle performance and upkeep as the system links with a mobile phone app. It also has service tracking, monitoring of driver behaviour and automatic emergency calls following accidents.
Diagnostics data will alert fleet managers to possible dangerous or illegal driving that could cause accidents. And in the event of an accident, the system is tethered into Jaguar’s emergency call technology, according to a telematics website.
But all this will be possible only if a phone is paired with the vehicle.
For pairing, one needs to keep the Bluetooth of the phone activated. One also needs to check if the phone is on the list of phones that can be paired with the vehicle from the Jaguar website. To pair a phone with the vehicle for the first time, the ignition needs to be switched on, and the home touch screen needs to be tapped.
This makes the vehicle’s Bluetooth system discoverable.
On the phone’s Bluetooth setting, one can search for new devices and select Jaguar.
A pass key is generated by the system and a confirmation message appears on the phone and the vehicle touchscreen. If the pass key matches then the pairing has to be okayed both in the vehicle and the phone. Once pairing is done successfully, the phone number is displayed on the touchscreen of the vehicle that automatically connects to the phone. In case of pairing with iPhones, no pass keys are generated. The vehicles system then prompts if the phone contacts and the recent call list should be downloaded on the vehicle. If this is approved, then the entire call list is accessible from the vehicle system.
