Jagaran Sangha, a club in Harishchandapur of Malda district, has come up with a clay idol of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, portraying her as goddess Durga at the Ganesh Puja organised by it this year.
Clad in a blue-white sari, the idol, with 10 hands symbolising the social welfare schemes introduced by the state government, is seen cradling Ganesh.
“The chief minister has been relentlessly working for welfare of people across Bengal and taking steps to keep the residents safe. She has stood by people in every crisis. That is why we depicted her as Durga,” said Bulbul Khan, secretary of the club.
