The man who had led a group of men and women in army-like uniforms inside the Jadavpur University campus last Wednesday and was arrested late on Saturday night, was remanded in police custody till September 3 after his court production on Sunday.
Police said Quazi Sadeque Hossain — who had introduced himself as the
general secretary of the “Asian Human Rights Commission” — a purported NGO whose members initially said they were from the Indian Army and then had said they were connected to the National Human Rights Commission, was arrested on Saturday night after hours of interrogation.
“He failed to give an explanation and there were
several inconsistencies in his version. On searching his house several fake identity cards and letterheads were found,” said an officer of Calcutta police.
Hossain was produced in the Alipore court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till September 3, said sources.
