The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi resident while he was illegally trying to cross the Indo-Bangla border in South Dinajpur district on Tuesday.Sources said troops of the 137 battalion of the force posted at Gayeshpur border outpost in South Dinajpur arrested Dulal Sarkar, a resident of Dhaka, for alleged infiltration.
He has been handed over Hilli police.The BSF also conducted raids on Tuesday night in different locations along the international border in north Bengal and seized a number of contraband items, including cattle and cough syrup bottles.The seized items were to be smuggled to Bangladesh, BSF sources said.
The cost of the seized items is Rs 1.17 lakh, the sources added.Driver killedAn e-rickshaw driver died after a car rammed into the vehicle on NH31 in Nagrakata block of Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday morning.Sources said Hemarani Raha, a resident of Luksan, had hired the e-rickshaw to reach Nagrakata. On the way, a vehicle hit the e-rickshaw from behind, killing Bhupen Sutradhar, 55, the e-rickshaw driver, on the spot.
Raha suffered injuries in the accident. Police said a probe was on. Food poisoningA six-year-old boy died and six members of his family fell ill because of suspected food poisoning at Goalnagra village in Malda district on Wednesday.Sahil Momin was taken to a hospital in Gazole in the morning where he died. Other family members are under treatment at the Malda Medical College & Hospital.
