Cyclist dies in accident

A 47-year-old cyclist died after being hit by a heavy goods vehicle on Kalikapur Road, off EM Bypass, on Sunday afternoon, police said. Badal Pramanik, a resident of Chandtala in Chowbhaga, was taken to the NRS Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The driver of the goods vehicle has been arrested.

Pillion-rider injured

A pillion-rider on a two-wheeler suffered injuries in her right leg after being hit by an app cab near the EM Bypass-Bagmari Road crossing on Sunday afternoon. Rakhi Sikari, 21, was admitted to ESI Hospital in Maniktala, police said. The app cab driver has been arrested.

Two arrested with drugs

Two women were arrested from BB Ganguly Street, near Koley Market, on Saturday after they were found carrying narcotics, police said. Over 322 grams of narcotics were seized from Durga Rani Mondal, 55, alias Chaya, of Sonarpur, and Radharaman Das, 37, of Bongaon, a police officer said.

Councillor dead

A Trinamul Congress councillor of Barasat Municipality and his brother were killed when the Mahindra Bolero they were travelling in was hit by a tractor in the Ahallyabai area of Chanditala in Hooghly district on Sunday evening. Praddyut Bhattacharjee and his brother Pranab were returning to Barasat after attending a family function in Hooghly’s Arambagh. The brothers were taken to a hospital, where both were declared dead.

MCA entrance

The joint entrance examinations board will conduct a common entrance examination titled JECA-2020 for admission to Master of Computer Application (MCA) course in various institutions in Bengal on June 27. The online applications can be submitted from April 2 to April 16, said officials.

JU workshop

Jadavpur University will hold a national workshop on “Intelligent Micro Manufacturing & Business Analytics” on March 6 and 7. The workshop is being organised by the department of production engineering.

CU syllabus

Calcutta University is going to organise a workshop on February 19 on undergraduate choice-based credit system syllabus for inorganic chemistry practicals, said university officials. The workshop is being organised by St Paul’s Cathedral Mission College, in association with the university’s board of studies in chemistry.

Health care

Horiba Medical, a company that provides medical services in Japan, inaugurated a centre for AI-enabled haematology, in association with Suraksha Diagnostic Pvt. Ltd, a few days ago. Health-care professionals would get an opportunity to discuss and practise various aspects of diagnostics, including interactive and experiential learning, workshops and best in class teaching, said officials.
