Police arrested Babu Paul, the main accused in the Chinsurah hospital firing on Saturday which injured a criminal, from Jalpaiguri on Monday.Debarshi Dutta, the police chief of Jalpaiguri district, said a team from Chandernagore police commissionerate arrested Paul and three others.
Sources said that a joint raid with local police was done in areas adjacent to Government Engineering College of the town.Babai Bala, Sekhar Dey and Prasenjit Dey were arrested along with Paul.
“All of them are residents of Hooghly district and they were hiding in a locality of Government Engineering College area. They were accused of shooting at Toton Biswas, a person accused in multiple criminal cases, on August 6,” said a police source.Biswas was being taken to the hospital for a routine check-up on Saturday when he was shot at. One of the bullets hit Biswas to the right of his chest. He was shifted to a Calcutta hospital for better treatment and is reportedly stable.After the incident, a police officer from Chandernagore said that they had identified the gang.“The police team from Chandernagore with the assistance of Jalpaiguri police arrested four persons from here and they were taken to Chandernagore after transit remand from Jalpaiguri court,” the SP said.
