High Court: Probe remarks on President Droupadi Murmu

Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered the Bengal government to probe into state minister Akhil Giri’s intemperate remarks about President Droupadi Murmu and file an affidavit within two weeks.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava issued the directive on a public interest litigation moved by advocate Sushmita Saha Datta who pleaded for stern measures against Giri for allegedly humiliating the President publicly.

Board schedules school hiring test

The state primary education board has scheduled the scrutiny/ verification of testimonials and aptitude tests of a section of TET candidates for November 18.

The names of the selected candidates will be recommended for appointment as teachers in government-aided primary schools

The exercise will be held at Acharya Prafulla Sadan,head quarters of the board in Salt Lake.

Elephant calf found dead

The carcass of a female elephant calf was recovered from a tea estate in Banarhat block of Jalpaiguri district on Thursday morning.

Foresters took the carcass for post-mortem at Gorumara National Park. They suspect the calf died after it fell into a drain.

Workers of Chunabhatti tea estate, close to the India-Bhutan border, spotted the carcass and alerted the management. The wildlife squad at Binnaguri was informed.
