Two students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) have accused two of their seniors of harassing them.

In her complaint with the institute authorities, a 26-year-old woman from Calcutta accused Piausmon Sunny of passing lewd remarks at her with the intention of outraging her modesty.

The other student, a 25-year-old woman from Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, accused Sunny and Vipul Nigam of wrongfully confining her on September 20 and November 6.

They had threatened her of dire consequences if she divulged the matter to anyone, she alleged.

The Bypass institute forwarded the two complaints to Panchasayar police station.

“The Calcutta woman alleged Sunny had behaved rudely with her on November 5 and kicked her with the intention of outraging her modesty,” an officer said.

“We have recorded the statements of the complainants as well as the accused,” another officer said. “We will talk to other students who can provide us with circumstantial evidence.”

The police have received more than six complaints of wrongful confinement and outrage of modesty from SRFTI students in the past three years.

“We received several intimations from the SRFTI’s internal committee based on students’ complaints,” the officer said.

The institute has been in news on several occasions because of complaints by students, all women.

In December 2015, the police had registered a case of rape against a professor after the authorities forwarded a student’s complaint that accused him of coercing her into a sexual relation.

In her complaint, she had said she was traumatised and had even attempted suicide.

On Monday, institute director Debamitra Mitra said an inquiry into the two complaints was on.

The SRFTI authorities have received several ragging complaints as well.

Body found

An 80-year-old man’s body was found in his Regent Park home on Sunday.
