Fresh tension within Jadavpur University premises after students clash with a group of Trinamul Chhatra Parishad supporters in front of Arabinda Bhavan, the university’s main administrative building, over protests held by rival political forces on the student’s death last week.

At least one student was injured in the clashes and moved to a neighbourhood hospital.

The face-off took place between a group of students who were attending a Arts Faculty Students Union General Body protest meeting under the portico blocking the building’s main entrance and a group of TMCP supporters who wanted to force their way inside the premises to submit a protest memorandum to the varisty authorities.

The TMCP workers were blocked by the students on grounds that they were “outsiders” to the institution.

Refusing to budge, the TMCP supporters continue to demonstrate before the building while the AFSU members continue to hold its ground at its entrance and continue its meeting.
