Sona was at large till late on Sunday evening, the police said. He is the brother-in-law of Gabbar, a notorious criminal who is in jail for many years now.

Sona has several criminal cases against him, the police said.

Sources said a CCTV footage has emerged in which Shabbir and others are seen attacking 29-year-old biker Ekhlas Beg at the crossing of Kyd Street and Mirza Ghalib Street early on Saturday.

The police said multiple rounds of bullets were fired. “One grazed a leg of the victim. The rest missed the target,” said an officer of Park Street police station.

Beg, a resident of Taltala, has been admitted to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.

An alleged dispute over why Beg had overtaken another biker on Friday afternoon culminated in a group of young men firing several rounds targeting him a few hours later.

All four who have been arrested were produced in Bankshal court on Sunday. They have been remanded in police custody.

A case of attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code and the arms act have been drawn up at Park Street police station against Sona and his alleged associates.

Sources in the anti-rowdy squad of the detective department said a search is on to nab Sona in connection with this case.
