The BSF apprehended four Bangladeshi residents, including a suspected smuggler, in the past 24 hours in north Bengal.

Around 11.30pm on Sunday, the sixth battalion of the BSF posted in Cooch Behar stopped the movement of five people in the general area near Karan border outpost as they had entered India from Bangladesh through an unfenced stretch.

The troops apprehend three persons, while two others managed to escape.

The three were Md. Taslim and his sister Tajgara Khatun and a three-year-old boy. All of them are residents of Thakurgaon in Bangladesh.

Taslim revealed that he had earlier entered India in 2016 and stayed for around six years while working as a cook at Panipat of Haryana. Last year, he had returned to his homeland and this time, they had plans to go to Panipat again for livelihood.

In North Dinajpur, a group of Bangladeshis was smuggling cough syrup through the border in the Goalpokhor area near the Norgaon border outpost on Monday morning.

When BSF jawans arrived, the smugglers attacked them with sharp weapons. One of the jawans was injured. The BSF fired in self-defence, which left a smuggler injured. Others managed to escape. Jahirul Islam from Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh sustained a bullet injury and was nabbed. He was hospitalised.
