Calcutta University will give BA, BSc and BCom second semester examinees additional time to submit exam forms if they miss the dates because of the Lok Sabha elections, a university official said on Thursday.

The BA and BSc online forms are to be filled in between May 8 and May 13. Colleges have to submit hard copies of the forms to the university by May 17.

For BCom, the forms are to be filled in from May 13 to 17 and colleges have to submit them by May 27.

College have to get the hard copies signed by students before submitting them to the university. Students need to be present in college to sign the hard copies of the forms.

The students have to collect another form from colleges to deposit the exam fees at a designated bank. They have to submit the form to the college after paying the fees, a university official said.

The university has not announced any new date, though.

Metro on Thursday reported that several city college principals had urged the university to reschedule the dates because the Election Commission of India would take over the campus for the elections around the announced dates.

The university issued a notice on Thursday announcing “additional dates will be allotted to candidates... if necessary in connection with the Lok Sabha polls”.

University vice-chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee had told Metro on Wednesday that the dates won’t be revised as they did not overlap with the poll or result dates.

A bulk of the university’s 150-odd colleges are in Calcutta and in North and South 24-Parganas where the polls will be held on May 19. The results will be declared on May 23.

Several colleges in the three districts will be taken over by the Election Commission of India between May 11 and May 24 for setting up booths and other election-related work.

The principals had sought an extension because the campuses would remain closed to students when the Election Commission of India takes the campuses over. Also, several non-teaching employees would be requisitioned by the commission for poll duties, the principals had said.
