Foresters of Baikunthapur forest division rescued a python from Nepalibusty, a locality on the outskirts of Siliguri, on Tuesday.
Residents spotted the reptile in a poultry shed in the morning and immediately informed foresters at the Dabgram range of the division.
A team of foresters rushed to the spot and rescued it.
Forest officials said the nine-foot-long Burmese python had entered the locality from Baikunthapur forest. Later, it was released into the wild.
Murder accused
The prime accused of the August 21 murder of a 16-year-old girl near Siliguri was sent in judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday after being produced at the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court. He will again be produced in court on September 19. Police were deployed on court premises to prevent untoward incidents. Representatives of social outfits gathered near the court to seek stern punishment of the accused.
