Bengal on Sunday reported 2,659 Covid-19 infections, 2,476 recoveries and five deaths.
The state has at present 30,791 active cases — 30,247 in home isolation and 544 at hospitals.
According to a state government bulletin, the recovery rate was 97.49 per cent and mortality rate 1.03 per cent on Sunday when examination of 15,492 samples was recorded. The case positivity rate was 17.16 per cent on day.
Since the pandemic broke out in 2020, the state has recorded 20,70,858 cases, of which 20,18,791 have made full recoveries. 21,276 fatalities have been recorded in the state so far. In light of the recent uptick in cases, booster doses being administered in the state have also increased. 50,06,791 booster doses have been administered in Bengal so far. 3,75,093 were administered in Bengal on Sunday.
Amid rising Covid cases, healthcare professionals have started advocating for a second booster shot for those involved in medicine. The state government has also issued a formal advisory saying that only fully vaccinated or asymptomatic persons should attend public gatherings in light of rising case numbers. Mask mandates and thermal screening too have made a comeback at public and private establishments.
