Five persons, including a minor girl, suffered injuries after a gaur (Indian bison) that had strayed into a village attacked them in Alipurduar on Wednesday.
Sources said the animal walked out of the Jaldapara National Park and entered Moiradanga village in Falakata block of the district, that is adjacent to the park.
Some locals saw the animal standing in a crop field and as the news spread, more and more people started assembling in the area to catch a glimpse of the bison.
The sources said the animal panicked because of the crowd and it started running aimlessly across the village. At that time, it injured some locals, who came close to it.
“The five injured were taken to a super-speciality hospital. Two of them were released after preliminary treatment while three of them are still under care,” said a source.
Later, foresters reached the spot and rescued the animal after darting it. The department is providing assistance in treatment of the injured.
