A fire broke out in the basement of a six-storey building that houses a pizza place and a retail outlet in Jodhpur Park late on Saturday, police said.
Residents of the building, the employees and diners at the pizza shop had to be evacuated but no one was injured, police said.
The building is used for both residential and commercial purposes and has a retail outlet on the ground floor apart from the pizza shop, the police said.
Five fire tenders doused the flames.
“The fire broke out around 8.45pm. We sent five fire tenders who soon brought the fire under control. No one was injured. We had to evacuate the residents though as we did jot want to take any risks,” said a fire official.
According to the fireofficial the fire had startedin a portion of the basement of the building.
“The basement hadsome kitchen equipmentkept inside,” said the official.
According to the fire officer an initial probe by the firemen indicates that the fire could have possibly started from a short circuit.
“It seems that the fire started because of a short circuit. However, it did not spread anywhere beyond the basement and a portion of the cafe,” the official said.
