On Monday, the deceased were identified as Bijoy Rauth,45, his wife Namita, 35, their 10-year-old son Krishna and three-year-old daughter Lodo.

Police said their primary investigation suggest that it was a case of suicide by drowning in the water body following a financial problem in the family.

The primary autopsy report also suggests that the deaths were caused due to drowning.

Police said Bijoy, a contract worker at West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) had plunged into mental depression following some financial problems.

“We came to know that there were regular quarrels between Bijoy and his wife at home,” said an investigating officer.

Sources said Bijoy left their rented accommodation in Dhadka area in Asansol north police station limits with his family on January 10.

“They didn’t return. They were never seen in the area since then. On Sunday afternoon, the bodies were found floating in the abandoned stone quarry at the Chatapathar area near their rented residence. Then their bodies were later identified,” said a police officer.
