The ethics panel inquiry report on Trinamul Congress parliamentarian Mahua Moitra would be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Friday, December 8 sources said. The committee, chaired by BJP member Vinod Sonkar, had adopted its report at a meeting on November 9, recommending Moitra's expulsion from the Parliament’s lower house over the cash-for-query allegation.

While Opposition members have demanded a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the report before any decision was taken on the matter, leader of the Trinamul parliamentary party Sydip Bandyopadhyay said that the party has urged Speaker Om Birla to allow Moitra to publicly defend herself on the floor of the house. The party has also expressed its concern that the report was leaked to the media before it was tabled in the House.

The report is based on an ethics panel inquiry against Mahua Moitra, based on a complaint from BJP MP Nishikant Dubey who accused the TMC leader of taking a bribe from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for "asking questions in Parliament." Moitra has denied the allegations all through and called them "bogus" and "politically motivated."
