The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday made a fresh application before a court in Birbhum’s Dubrajpur seeking certified copies of its two orders on an emergency basis as the central agency would move to the Supreme Court against the attempt-to-murder case lodged by Birbhum police.
On the same day, a Delhi court granted Mondal’s production warrant to question him in the national capital in the cattle smuggling case.
The Dubrajpur court has ordered a hearing in this connection on December 26.
“We had filed a fresh application before Dubrajpur court seeking certified copies of its orders and case detail in connection with the attempt-to-murder case against Anubrata Mondal. The order of the Birbhum court prevented to execution of another order from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on the same day. We mentioned in writing to treat this application on an emergency basis as the agency would move to the Supreme Court,” said Tapan Sahana, the lawyer representing the ED.
Sahana made an appeal for certified copies on Thursday. Sources said the fresh application was made after a discussion with the legal cell of the ED.
“We mentioned the reason for the emergency before the court as it does not delay to provide us with the certified copies. Otherwise, there was a chance that the court could schedule the hearing later,” Sahana added.
On Monday, a former Trinamul gram panchayat chief lodged a complaint against Mondal, accusing him of trying to throttle him to death in the party office ahead of the Assembly polls in 2021.
Following the complaint of the attempt to murder, the court at Dubrajpur in Birbhum district on Monday ordered that Mondal be brought from the Asansol correctional home — where he had been lodged since the last week of August after the CBI had arrested him in the cattle smuggling case — for interrogation.
When Mondal was produced in the court on Tuesday, he was sent to police custody for seven days.
The hearing of the petition by Birbhum Trinamul Congress leader Anubrata Mondal postponed till January 3.
