Enforcement Directorate officials searched the premises of several persons, including senior Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, in a case dealing with school staff recruitment during his earlier stint as state education minister.
The ED tweeted a picture of a heap of currency notes, said to amount to Rs 20 crore. ED sources claimed the money was seized from Arpita Mukherjee, whom they identified as a close associate of the minister.
Chatterjee, now the state commerce and industries minister, was being questioned at his home well past 1am on Saturday.
The premises of 11 searched include that of Paresh Adhikary, minister of state for education; Manik Bhattacharya, MLA and former president of the Bengal board of primary education; Kalyanmay Bhattacharya, who runs a school; Krishna C. Adhikary, a relative of Kalyanmay, and S.P. Sinha, former chief adviser to the School Service Commission.
