Sukanya Mandal, daughter of arrested Trinamul leader Anubrata Mondal, was questioned by the Enforcement directorate (ED) for nearly seven-and-a-half hours on Friday at its New Delhi headquarters.

“I have told them all that is true, whatever it is,” Sukanya said while leaving the ED office on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in the evening.

The central agency, which is probing alleged money laundering in a multi-crore cattle smuggling case in Bengal, has now questioned Sukanya for three days in a row.

Sukanya came under the scanner after ED officials traced her income and found that she had earned close to Rs 1 crore in the past two years, an unusually high amount considering that the primary school teacher had earned just over Rs 3 lakh in 2014. The cow smuggling is alleged to have begun in 2015.

In its recent chargesheet, the CBI, also probing the case, has said that Sukanya’s annual income had increased from Rs 3.10 lakh in 2013-14 to Rs 1.45 crore in 2020-21. Sources said Sukanya was questioned about her alleged association with two companies, her income tax returns and her purported links to some of those believed to be close to Anubrata.
