Sukanya Mondal, daughter of arrested Trinamul leader Anubrata Mondal, faced officers from the Enforcement Directorate for the second day in a row in Delhi on Thursday.

The central agency summoned Sukanya in connection with its probe into the alleged multi-crore cattle smuggling case spanning Bengal and a few other states.

Sukanya reached the ED office with Rajib Bhattacharya, a Bolpur-based businessman and her father’s close aide, around 11am, carrying documents in a folder. The two were escorted to a room on the second floor of the building for questioning, which was held in two phases, punctuated by a lunch break.

Manish Kothari, Anubrata Mondal’s chartered accountant, was questioned in a separate room near where Sukanya was interrogated.

Thursday's questioning of Sukanya, a primary school teacher, revolved around the source of her money that allegedly helped her create assets including properties bought between 2015 and 2022 and fixed deposits worth around Rs 6 crore. Officers also wanted to know about her role in at least two rice mills. “She said Kothari managed most of her funds and she was not aware of the exact nature of the dealings,” said a source.

“She evaded many questions on funds,” said a senior official.

Sources said they learnt Bhattacharya and Kothari mediated the purchase of one of the rice mills in 2014 for an estimated price of Rs 1.5 crore. Sukankya and her late mother were listed as owners.
