Nirmal Chandra Roy, the Trinamul Congress MLA of Dhupguri, took a flight to Calcutta from Bagdogra on Friday to take oath at Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
He left his residence in Dhupguri on Friday morning and reached the airport. “Once I reach Calcutta, I will first meet Sovondeb Chattopadhyay (state minister for parliamentary affairs) to know about tomorrow’s event. I want to serve the people of my constituency,” said Roy.
Over the past seven days, there had been a tussle between the state government and governor C.V. Ananda Bose over his swearing-in.
Eventually, it was decided that Bose will administer the oath to Roy, who had won in the Dhupguri by-poll earlier this month.
Top Trinamul functionaries, including Sovondeb, had accused the governor of delaying the process, which in turn, is deterring Roy to start working in his official capacity.
On Friday late evening, Trinamul leaders expressed disappointment with the function and said that Biman Banerjee, the Speaker of the Assembly, had not received any invitation from Raj Bhavan.
“It has been decided by the state parliamentary affairs departments to send Tapash Roy (a senior MLA) to the swearing-in function,” said a party functionary.
