A Dhaka University student, who suffered a stroke last year and had come to Calcutta with his family two days ago for treatment, has been reported missing from a hotel in the Park Street area since Wednesday night.

Mohammad Delwar Hossain, 23, can hardly speak or walk for long because of his physical condition, father Adul Karim said. He remained untraced till Thursday evening.

CCTV footage from the hotel and the road show Delwar walking towards Park Street, police said.

His family said he suffered from a stroke last February after which he had jaundice.

“The family came here on June 18. They checked into a hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street. Yesterday (Wednesday) night he stepped out, silently. CCTV camera of the hotel shows he went out around 11.27pm. His mother was the first to notice that her son was missing,” said an officer of Park Street police station.

Karim, an advocate at the Pabna district civil court in Bangladesh, told The Telegraph on Thursday that he spent the entire night looking for his son on the city roads. “Our only concern is after he had the stroke he has not been able to stand or speak properly."

The family has lodged a missing diary with Park Street police station.

Senior officers said the matter was being looked into “with utter seriousness”.
