The CPM’s youth front, DYFI, will hold a rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds here on January 7 next year, demanding employment opportunities and a secure future for the younger generations of the state and the nation.
In the run-up to the Brigade event, there will be a two-month-long march of the DYFI across Bengal from November 3 (the foundation day of the CPM’s frontal organisation).
The march will be called Insaaf Yatra (March for Justice).
DYFI state secretary Minakshi Mukherjee said the march was against both central and state governments.
“There are no jobs for the youth, no money from the 100-day employment guarantee scheme. School dropouts have been on the rise. These are real issues that need to be addressed urgently, but keep getting sidelined,” said Mukherjee on Monday.
“Our fight is directly with the ruler(s). We will be on the road for those two months. After that, the rally at the Brigade will challenge the two governments,” she added.
This summer, the Trinamul Congeress’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had taken out a two-month-long march ahead of the panchayat elections. The Trinamuley Nabo Jowar mass outreach initiative was not very dissimilar to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra last year. Abhishek’s programme was heavily criticised by the Opposition for the allegedly ostentatious arrangements.
“The path of our march will not witness showers of roses by a favourable ruling dispensation. The road lies ahead of us, as do the people at the grassroots. The road will show us the way,” Mukherjee said. “We are not into tent politics,” she added, referring to the allegedly luxurious tents arranged for Abhishek and his entourage for the nocturnal stops during the march.
“We will be in the open fields, exposed to the elements, fighting for the agenda of survival of the masses.”
