And this government is of All India Trinamul Congress. So today I am holding this dharna not on behalf of the state government but on behalf of the All India Trinamul Congress. - Mamata Banerjee starts two-day dharna to protest Centre's 'discrimination' against Bengal, reports PTI
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is all set to begin her two-day sit-in demonstration in Calcutta from Wednesday noon to protest BJP-led Union government's alleged discriminatory attitude towards her state.
But that's not the only agitation which is scheduled to take place in the city on Wednesday. Multiple protests across the state's political spectrum is likely to bring about large scale disruption in public life in Calcutta on a busy working day.
A few hundred metres from where Banerjee would be holding her dharna in front of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on Red Road in central Calcutta, the Trinamul national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee would be addressing public meeting at the Shahid Minar ground on the same issue as Banerjee's sit-in demonstration.
The meeting, organised jointly by the Trinamul Youth Congress and the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad and which is scheduled to start from 2 pm, would protest the alleged withholding of funds by the Centre and its "anti-people policies".
Reluctant to allow the Trinamul to attract the entire media attention for day, the state unit of the BJP has scheduled a parallel dharna at Shyambazar in north Calcutta.

The demonstration, which would be hosted at the Metro station gate no 1, is scheduled to begin from 2 pm and has been organised to protest "massive corruption in public recruitments and loot of central funds by the Trinamul Congress".
Almost all top BJP leaders of the state, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, state president Sukanta Majumdar, national vice president Dilip Ghosh, state youth president Indranil Khan, and other leaders like Rahul Sinha, Agnimitra Paul, Shankar Ghosh and Priyanka Tibrewal are expected to be present.
The Bengal Pradesh Congress, too, has planned a protest rally against the "unjust and unfair rejection of Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership". The rally would also highlight, the party said, "Modi-Adani anti-national relationship" and demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe in the Adani issue.
The procession, led by the PCC chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, is scheduled to commence from the party headquarters in Moulali at 2.30 pm and march up to Park Circus.

Not to be left behind, the CPM has also planned a rally to potest against the "corruption' in public schemes. The procession will start from Moulali's Ram Lila Park, pass through AJC Boase Road, and also conclude at Park Circus.
Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly alleged that the Centre has not released funds for the MGNREGA project for the state and other initiatives of its housing and road departments.
"The Centre has stopped releasing funds for MGNREGA and Indira Awas Yojana (Grameen). Besides, it has also stopped scholarships for OBC students," she said on Tuesday, while launching a project to construct 12,000 km of rural roads.
Launching the 'Pathashree-Rastashree' scheme ahead of panchayat elections due later this year, Banerjee had said the entire expenditure of Rs 3.75 thousand crores for constructing the rural roads would be borne by the state and not the central government.
"The Centre has not released over Rs 7,000 crores pending under the MGNREGA scheme and has not given work to our people despite West Bengal topping the list of states in completing the work under the initiative… We believe jealousy or politics may be the reason behind this," she said.
Earlier, she had alleged that West Bengal has not received its due from the Centre and even in this year's budget, there was nothing for the eastern state.
"Hence, in protest against the Centre's discrimination against West Bengal, I, as the chief minister, will stage a sit-in demonstration in front of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Kolkata from March 29 and continue it till the evening of March 30," she added.
