A ranking tournament is one where a player earns points for his/her performance. The total points a player garners determine the rank in a particular category.

“The SBI Life MT 200 World Tennis Masters will be organised by Darjeeling Gymkhana Club in association with Bengal Tennis Association at the club from May 13 to 19,’ said Jit Pradhan, vice-chairman, Darjeeling Gymkhana Club.

The tournament will have nine categories in age groups starting from 40 plus to 75plus in male and female categories.

“Over 90 players from India and abroad will participate in the tournament,” said Ashish Sen, who is ranked fifth in the country in the 60-plus age category and is part of Sportskedia, a sports start-up that is providing the technical know-how for the tournament.

Barun Lala, also from Sportskedia, has been nominated as the tournament director and Saikat Roy designated as the referee.

The tournament will see the participation of many champions in the respective categories like Pawan Jain, who represented India in the 60-plus category, Suresh Murthati (India representative in 65 plus) and Ramakrishna Sudagani (75-plus category).

The club was established in 1909.
