A bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle on the Bypass-Prince Anwar Shah Road connector, near the Purbachal crossing, around midnight on Tuesday. Sunny Das, 35, a resident of Purbachal Bidhan Road, was taken to MR Bangur Hospital with head injuries. He was declared dead at hospital.
Railway inspection
The general manager of Eastern Railway, Suneet Sharma, inspected railway infrastructure and passenger amenities at many stations, tracks, overbridges and level crossings in the Khana-Howrah section of the Howrah-Burdwan chord line on Wednesday.
65-year-old found
Cops found a 65-year-old man sitting near a garbage vat in Michaelnagar, Kestopur, and took him to a hospital on Wednesday. Initially, he could not remember his name but later said he was Rajendra Dhali. He had no IDs. He was speaking incoherently and was visibly weak so police admitted him to a Dum Dum hospital.
Property tax
The Calcutta Municipal Corporation will go on a drive to collect property tax by March 31, deputy mayor Atin Ghosh, who heads assessment department of CMC, said on Wednesday. Ghosh said he has asked officers to reach out to defaulters and make use of penal actions like issuing rent attachment notice and distress warrants.
Pumping station
Mayor Firhad Hakim will inaugurate a semi-underground water reservoir and a booster pumping station at Mansatala on Thursday. It will benefit residents of Kidderpore and Mominpore.
