The North Bengal Medical College & Hospital will admit non-Covid-19 patients but in a restricted manner for some time as around 100 doctors, paramedics and nursing staff are currently quarantined after some of them tested positive for Covid-19.

The NBMCH is the principal referral state-run hospital in north Bengal.

A hospital source said 13 doctors, paramedics and technicians tested positive so far. Another 35 doctors and 45 nursing staff who had come in contact with them, have been sent to the quarantine.

Sandip Sengupta, the NBMCH dean of students, said some doctors, nursing staff and technicians at the NBMCH have tested positive for Covid-19. “That is why a number of other doctors, paramedics and nursing staff who had come in contact with them, have been sent in quarantine. With this being the situation, it has been decided that for sometime, admission of patients would be carried out in a restricted manner. Admission would be done only in emergency cases,” Sengupta said.
