A CRPF vehicle that was leading BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy hit a truck from behind while overtaking a bus on Friday afternoon at East Midnapore’s Marisda.
The front portion of the SUV got twisted but no major injuries were reported. Adhikari’s car was in the middle of the convoy and was unaffected, police said.
The incident took place when the leader of the Opposition was travelling to Tamluk from Contai.
Some BJP leaders on social media hinted at a conspiracy, which was denied by Trinamul.
Bengal reports 1,739 new Covid-19 infections
Calcutta: Bengal on Friday reported 1,739 new Covid-19 infections, 456 recoveries and no death, with the case positivity rate rising to 14.72 per cent.
There are 8,277 active cases in the state: 7,950 in home isolation and 327 in hospitals, according to the state bulletin.
The mortality rate stood at 1.04 per cent on Friday.
