Crash kills girl on way for JU admission

Family members said that Tabassum had completed her B.Sc in Physics from Jangipur College and recently cleared the admission test for post-graduation in the mechanical engineering department at Jadavpur University

Tabassum Khatun, 22, a resident of Sujapur village in Murshidabad’s Raghunathganj, died in a road accident on Wednesday on her way to Jadavpur University where she was supposed to get admission to post-graduation curriculum in the mechanical engineering department.

Relatives of the victim said that Tabassum was on her way to Raghunathganj bus stand from a relative’s house in Banipur in Raghunathganj police station area at
around 4am. But on her way to the bus stand, the toto in which she was travelling
overturned.

“Tabassum sustained injuries in her head… She was bleeding through her nose and ear. She was rushed to Jangipur Sub Divisional hospital, but she was declared brought-dead,” said a relative.

Family members said that Tabassum had completed her B.Sc in Physics from Jangipur College and recently cleared the admission test for post-graduation in the mechanical engineering department at Jadavpur University.

Tabassum had two sisters and a mother in her family and her father had died in a road accident nine years ago.

“She was trying to establish herself fighting against all odds… But her journey came to an end midway,” said a family member.

Police said as the road was slippery after overnight rain, the toto overturned leaving the student seriously injured. “The toto driver was also injured. As his injuries are minor, he is recovering fast,” said a police officer.
