Veteran CPM leader from north Bengal and many-time MLA Asok Bhattacharya was among those who participated in the march.

The rally, demanding employment and better education for youths, is part of the CPM's statewide programme which started from Cooch Behar district on Friday.

The march is expected to cover a distance of 2,000 kilometres across the state to reach Calcutta in the next two months.

The rally will end with a mega public meeting at the Bengal capital on January 7.

"We are paying taxes and electing our representatives but unfortunately they are looting public money and depriving us from getting our legitimate rights," Minakshi Mukherjee, the state secretary of the DYFI, said at Bagdogra where a public meeting was organised after the rally.

"Our focus is on education and employment,” the youth leader added as the crowd cheered.
