On Friday, CPM leaders of South Dinajpur district felicitated Udayan in the district party office in Balurghat. Later, Nandalal Hazra, the acting district secretary, announced that the party had decided that it would bear all the educational expenses of Lenin.

“Our party will extend all possible help to him so that he can continue his education. We have learnt that he wants to be a doctor and will provide all assistance to him. He has proved his mettle in Madhyamik and we believe he will continue to excel in his studies in the coming days,” said Hazra.

CPM state secretary Mohammad Salim had said on Thursday that the party was planning to provide help to Udayan for his further studies. Umesh, his father, is a full-time worker of the CPM and gets a monthly allowance of Rs 7,000 from the party.

Udayan, who had been worried if he would be able to pursue the medical course given the financial constraints of his family, was elated on Friday. “I thank the CPM leadership for extending support to me. I will try my best to meet their aspirations,” he said.

Umesh, his father, also thanked the party. “We live in a backward district. I want my son to be a doctor and serve the people here,” he said.
