The coronavirus has forced curbs at two residential institutions.
The administration of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission has asked hostel inmates to go home. All classes at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, have been suspended.
“All students from classes V to X under a proper escort will be allowed to go home after breakfast at 9am on Sunday… they will have to return to their Bhavanas by 5pm on March 31,” according to a notice to guardians.
The scheduled council exams of classes XI and XII will be held according to routine, the notice said.
The notice followed a release from the chief minister’s office on Saturday, ordering the closure of all educational institutions in the state, both government and private, till March 31, and allowing only board exams to continue.
All classes at IIEST have been suspended till March 31, the authorities said on Saturday, after a meeting of the senate, the highest decision-making authority of the institute. But there was no specific direction to hostel inmates to go home. “All classes will remain suspended till March 31. Teachers may take classes through the electronic medium,” according to a statement.
“Hostels will remain open. Students will be advised not to go out of the campus as far as possible.”
The senate will meet again on March 25 to review the situation.
