Members of 14 families at a Raiganj locality were greeted with flowers and chocolates on Sunday by the local councillor, health workers and neighbours as they had completed their two-week quarantine without coming out of homes for even once.

“At a time a section of people is violating the lockdown and roaming around, these 14 families have set an example by staying indoors for the past two weeks. Not a single member of any family came out even once and most of them even locked the entrances to their residences during this period,” said Ashim Adhikary, a Trinamul Congress councillor at the Raiganj municipality.

The 14 families belong to Debinagar which falls under Adhikary’s ward 25.

Twenty-one families of Debinagar had gone under the 14-day quarantine as they had members who studied or worked outside Bengal and returned home before the lockdown was announced. Of the 21 families, 14 have already completed the quarantine.

“The administration pasted posters at the homes of the 21 families, saying the members were under quarantine. None of them raised objections and they all followed the guidelines. The 14 families finished their quarantine today and we greeted them with roses and chocolates,” said the councillor.

Some health workers followed him, holding a placard appreciating the quarantined. There are around 60 people at the 14 homes.

The remaining seven families, too, will be welcomed in the same manner once they completed 14 days at home, said Adhikary.

Raiganj BJP MP and Union minister of state Debasree Chaudhuri had last week come out of home without completing the quarantine and distributed masks to people violating the social distance norm. She had arrived from New Delhi on March 23 and her 14-day quarantine would have ended on April 6.
