Mamata Banerjee has said Nabanna, the state secretariat, would remain closed this Sunday and Monday as the building will undergo sanitisation.

“Tomorrow and the day after, Nabanna will remain closed. It will be sanitised,” the chief minister told a news conference at the state secretariat.

So far, Nabanna has been the war room of the Bengal government in the battle against the novel coronavirus.

“It has been decided that only the Covid19 control room set up on the second floor will be kept open this Sunday and Monday. The rest of the building will be sanitised,” a source said.

Since the lockdown was announced, the majority of the departments have remained closed. The chief minister’s office and the offices of the chief secretary, home secretary and the DGP have, however, been functioning. “Most importantly, the building is located in Howrah, where a number of areas have been identified as sensitive since several Covid19 cases have been reported. The building needs to be sanitised as the offices of the top brass of the state government are housed here,” an official said.

The building had been sanitised a couple of weeks ago after the son of a home department official tested positive for the coronavirus.
