A block development officer working under Basirhat subdivision in North 24-Parganas tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, unleashing panic among officials working in close proximity with him for the past couple of days.

Official sources said the BDO, who had a hectic schedule while working at the ground level during the past three weeks owing to the twin Covid and Amphan crises, fell ill on Wednesday at his official residence.

His swab sample was sent for test and on Friday night it was confirmed that he was Covid-19 positive. He was admitted to a Covid hospital in Calcutta, sub-divisional officer of Basirhat, Vivek Dattaraya Bhasme, said.
