Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has said the government will allow special trains ferrying migrant workers from May 27.

“I welcome all back to the state. We need some time to arrange all required initiatives after the cyclone hit the state badly,” she said. The chief minister said all passengers would go through thermal screening at railway stations and their swabs would be collected for coronavirus tests.

Highest tests

Bengal on Saturday conducted 9,009 Covid tests, its highest intra-day number. The tests-per-million count has risen to 1,440 and the positive confirmation rate stands at 2.67 per cent. With four fresh deaths in the past 24 hours, till 9am on Saturday, the death toll from the pathogen stood at 197. With 127 new cases, the total number of active Covid-19 positive cases is 1,909.

Sikkim case

Sikkim, the only Indian state that had been free of the coronavirus infection, reported its first case on Saturday with a 25-year-old government job aspirant who had returned from Delhi testing positive.
