The Bengal government has directed the districts not to set up quarantine centres in educational institutions after a person was killed in a clash between two groups in Birbhum’s Parui over setting up such a facility at a hostel on April 4.
Officials said the district magistrates had been asked to shift the quarantine centres that had already come up in schools.
“The state government has passed an order against using schools, colleges or hostels as quarantine centres. It has ordered the utilisation of vacant government buildings located in isolated areas.
The order has been issued after the murder of a villager over setting up a quarantine centre in a Birbhum village,” said a senior official.
In Burdwan, at least three quarantine centres that had been running out of schools were shifted to other government buildings on Thursday. Purulia too has shifted 11 quarantine centres from schools to other buildings like kisan mandis and industrial training institutes.
