A 24-year-old youth who was abducted for ransom on August 30 in Malda district was rescued by police on Monday night. Three persons have been arrested in this connection.
The police sources said the victim Somen was the son of Krishna Biswas, a trader based in Jhimuli area of Narayanpur.
Somen’s father on Friday filed a complaint at Malda police station .
“Krishna mentioned that his son was kidnapped around 9pm on August 30 from near his home. Later, the trader received calls from unknown numbers demanding a ransom of Rs 23 lakh,” said a police officer.
Following the compliant, the police initiated a probe and a team was formed to locate and the youth.
“During investigation, the police came to know Somen had been taken to Hili in the neighbouring South Dinajpur district. A raid was conducted at the location and the youth was rescued. Also, all three who had abducted Somen were nabbed,” the officer added.
The arrested trio have been identified as Anarul Islam of Alinagar, Badal Sheikh and Bablu Sheikh of Raikhadighi, all located under Gazole police station of Malda district.
“We need to interrogate the arrested kidnappers to gather more information. The rescued youth is in stable condition,” said the officer.
