Some junior doctors on Sunday lodged a police complaint against three government doctors, including Avik De and Birupaksha Biswas, who were reportedly close to former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh.

Officers said the complaint was lodged with Bowbazar police station on Sunday, three days after the state health department suspended De and Biswas and initiated a departmental probe against them.

“A section of junior doctors at Medical College Kolkata complained against the two doctors (De and Biswas) alleging that they would threaten to destroy the juniors’ career if their instructions were not followed,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.

“The complaint also named a third doctor, Ranjit Saha.”

De and Biswas were allegedly present in the seminar room on the third floor of the Emergency Building of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when the body of the junior doctor who was raped and murdered was still there.

Health department officials said neither De nor Biswas was posted at RG Kar.

Biswas was a senior resident in the pathology department of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital before being transferred to Kakdwip Sub-divisional Hospital, where staff resisted his joining duty there.

De is a postgraduate trainee in general surgery at SSKM Hospital.

Health sources said De and Biswas were close to former RG Kar principal Ghosh, who is in CBI custody in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the medical college.

Ghosh resigned as principal days after the junior doctor was found raped and murdered on August 9.

The West Bengal Medical Council show-caused Ghosh, De and Biswas on Saturday.

De is a member of the West Bengal Medical Council and Biswas is a member of the penal and ethics committee of the council. Both have been asked to stay away from any meeting or activity of the council, an official of the council said.

De has been accused of threatening students at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and “influencing the work there,” a health department official said.

The police said a preliminary probe was initiated against the three doctors.
